Babywearing in the heat

The sun has arrived for a little while! So here is our guide to:

Carrying In The Heat

Hydrate

Keep both of you hydrated

Remember a grumpy baby can be a sign of a dehydrated baby

Layers

Dress baby and yourself lightly in thin layers

Use a thinner / lighter sling (bear in mind the sling counts as one layer)

Shade

Seek out shaded areas

Use a brolly if there isn't any available

Try to avoid the hottest time of the day - 11am - 3pm

Protection

Be cautious of the risk of sun/wind burn

Use suncream or long sleeves to cover skin

Make sure baby wears a sun hat or an extra large one for yourself

Consider a sling with UV protection

Choice

If possible choose a sling designed for warmer weather; solar, mesh, linen (we have light carriers for hire!)

If not use a single layer carry or hip/back carrying is cooler

Consider

Using cooling aids; fans, cool cloths/muslin

Other means of transport, just remember not to drape anything over buggy

Breaks/Rest

If you need a break - TAKE ONE!

Rest during walks / days out and swap who carries

Allow baby a break out of the sling too
